2019 has wound down and thank yous

Hi all!

We have officially finished with the 2019 Haunt Season for the Asylum Haunted House by the Ocoee Lions Club. This has been our most successful year for the haunt. We owe that success to many people/businesses.

First, we’d like to thank you, the patrons, for coming to the event and providing your support. We hope you enjoyed it the haunt this year and that you’ll come back in 2020. The entry fee you paid will help many in the community get the eye, hearing, and diabetic medical assistance they need.

Next, we would like to thank all the businesses and community professionals that donated to our cause such as:

  • Bray Ace Hardware
  • Cariera’s Fresh Italian
  • Franco’s Pizza
  • Fun Faces Balloon Creations
  • Kimberly Holland
  • Sean O’Neil
  • Omega Knives
  • Oriental Trading Company
  • Sweet Chicks Concessions
  • Toll Road Brewery
  • Walmart Super Center in Ocoee

We could not have been as successful as this without your generous donations.

Next, we’d like to thank all of the actors and staff that donated their time and energy to make the haunt a success. They spent many tireless hours prepping and executing their roles / positions and it showed. Over the time we have become a family. We could not have asked for a better group of people.

Finally, we’d like to thank all of the Ocoee, Ormand by the Sea, and Lake Alfred Lions Club members that provided the man power for the house to be built and for support on event nights. It is such an honor to be part of such a great organization.

While the 2019 season is over we have started planning the 2020 season. We hope to see you next year.

Best Regards,

Ocoee Lions Club Haunted House Committee

Introducing Nurse Goodwill - Patient 505

Case Number (Patient): 505

Patient’s Name: Nurse Goodwill

Nurse Goodwill specialized in assisting the doctor as well as providing basic care for patients. Course, she most liked the days when she was in charge of the children in the facility. One day, she seemed off; not quite paying attention or doing her services. After a few hours people then noticed that some of the children were gone. The person in charge was Nurse Goodwill and so all the fingers pointed at her. It was then they realized she had become what she had sought to help cure and the children that had been missing were soon found less than a mile away in shallow graves. They had seemed to have been completely flayed almost experimentally. She ended up losing her position and becoming a patient herself, but now she wanders, looking for her next experiment.

Kool K's Adventures Vlog of the Asylum

On Friday, October 18th the Kool K's Adventures crew came to the Asylum and filmed their Vlog.   We appreciate them coming out.

Two weeks until opening night (10/18) of The Asylum Haunted Hospital (aka Asylum) presented by Ocoee Lions Club.

The Asylum is run by Sister Mary Dementia who used to run the asylum for years and after a horrible incident with a patient of the asylum she lost her faith, her mind, and eventually her soul. She now wanders the halls and grounds of the asylum looking for some peace from her madness. Sister Mary Dementia is just one of many poor souls that have lost their mind at the Asylum. We invite you to come out and meet her and our patients.

Meet Patient #875 - Father Joel

Case Number (Patient): 875

Patient’s Name: Father Joel

Father Joel became a priest in 1979 and was assigned to the St Agnes Church. After a few years a local family, also members of the church, asked Father Joel to help them with their daughter Stephanie who had become very sick and exhibiting odd behavior. They had been to many doctors and health professionals and no one seemed to know what was wrong with her. The family was desperate and was out of options.

After seeing Stephanie in her condition Father Joel sent Stephanie and her family to check into St Agnes Hospital under the care of Sister Mary Margaret. The thought was to observe Stephanie 24/7 to see if a diagnosis could be made.

Over the next few months it because clear that Stephanie was possessed by a demon. Father Joel, Dr. Lincoln Stone, and Sister Mary Margaret tried to perform an exorcism on Stephanie in an attempt to save her. Unfortunately, they were not successful, and Stephanie lost her fight with the demon. At that time the demon turned its attention to those working the exorcism, Father Joel, Dr. Lincoln Stone, and Sister Mary Margaret.

Shortly after the exorcism Father Joel disappeared. No one heard from him for years. Then in 1993 he resurfaced at the hospital. The Father had changed. He was no longer the kind, jovial, and merciful person he once was. He now was very dark and mean. Instead of helping patients he started to harm them. This continued until the hospital was closed in 1995. The Father now wanders the halls and grounds of the asylum looking for some peace from the madness.

Meet Patient #479 - Samara

Case Number (Patient): 479

Patient’s Name: Samara

This year at the Asylum you might get to meet Samara. Samara, Patient 479, was dumped off at the hospital in 1973 and was badly disfigured from a childhood disease. We don’t know her last name, but the name Samara was pinned on her chest.

Samara is mute but will make screaming noises that will send shivers up your spine. She is also notorious for crawling around the hospital and thus earning the nickname the Crawler. She is also known to be able to disappear and turn into a shadow figure.

They say if you stand perfectly still and don’t make a sound she will leave you be, but if you scream she is known to attack. Do you think you can handle meeting Samara?

Meet Patient #285 - Clara Jenkins

This year at the Asylum you might get to meet Mrs. Clara Jenkins or Clara Patient 285. Clara was married to Dan Jenkins for many years and had 7 children. Clara’s husband died of mysterious circumstances. This caused Clara to lose her mind. She came to the Asylum after it was discovered she killed and ate all 7 of her children. She was a model patient for years and then one stormy night she just disappeared. After that night many patients and guests reported seeing her roaming the halls and grounds but was never able to be captured.

Introduction to The Asylum Haunted Hospital - Part 2

Over the next few years the Father, Sister, and Doctor lost their minds. The Father started tormenting patients and their visitors. The Sister started roaming the halls and filling the hospital with darkness and evil. The Doctor started conducting horrible experiments on patients.

The church started getting complaints from staff and patients about what was going on at the hospital. The issues were so many the church decided it was best to close the doors on the hospital in 1995. They didn’t have the means to deal with the long-term patients, so many of them just hid in the hospital making it their home.

For years there have been many stories about the goings on at the now vacant hospital. Stories of seeing ghosts, hearing disembodied screams, seeing lights going off and on in the building, hearing banging sounds, etc. The local kids would break into the building and try to get glimpses of the ghosts at the hospital. It got so bad the church had to hire security guards to keep the trespassers out. But even still the stories continued.

The hospital fell further and further into disrepair. But that did not keep the former patients from returning. While the conditions were horrible it was still a place of solace to them. What these former patients didn’t know is now the building itself was haunted by the demon and it would affect each person that entered its doors. You’ll learn more about each of the patients that stayed in their bios each Friday.

The locals started calling it the Asylum vs St. Agnes. Since it seemed to be an Asylum for the lost souls that lost their minds to the hospital.

Now St. Agnes is asking for your help. The only tool you’ll have is a flashlight. The best time to hunt for the ghosts is at night, but unfortunately the hospital has no power. Are you brave enough to roam the halls searching for the ghosts and lost souls? Are you ready to help us find those souls and get them the help they need so they can find some peace?

Meet Patient #295 - Smiley

Case Number (Patient): 295

Patient’s Name: Name Unknown (nicknamed Smiley)

Patient 295 came to the hospital when her family could not take care of her any longer. The family dropped her off without providing her name or any other vital information. It appears that at some time Patient 295 was in a horrible accident that left her disfigured. Despite all of that she was always in good spirits, so the staff nicknamed her Smiley.

A few years after her arrival she was found in a closet with her right leg amputated and bleeding to death. The staff is not sure what happened, but this was shortly after a visit from Dr. Stone. This incident turned Smiley into a bitter and sad soul causing her to slip into madness. Now she wheels around the halls looking for Dr. Stone to punish him for what he did to her.

Meet Patient #777 - The Gatekeeper

Case Number (Patient): 777

Patient’s Name: Julia (last name unknown)

In 1986 an 18-year-old girl came into the ER of the hospital looking for assistance for severe burns she had over 50% of her body. After being admitted to the hospital it was discovered her name was Julia, patient 777, and it was sad because she never had any visitors. No family. No friends. No one. It was clear that Julia was very lonely.

Over time the burns healed but Julia was very scared from them. The scars were more than just those on her external body. She also seemed to have emotional and mental scars. Without knowing the history, it was assumed she was abused for most of her life.

At the same time that Julia came to the hospital there was a huge fire at the local high school during their prom dance. No one seemed to know who set the fire, but it was believed to be a young girl at the dance. The case was never solved but it was believed she was a victim of that fire. Julia became a permanent resident of the hospital.

She would spend her days at the front doors of the hospital “waiting” for visitors that never came. She would approach each visitor to see if they were there for her. Each day it was more and more heartbreaking to witness this. Some of the other patients nicknamed her the Gate Keeper, since she sat at the hospital “gates” to welcome visitors.

In 1995 when the hospital closed Julia had no place to go, so she hid at the condemned hospital for shelter. The hospital had been the only home she had really known. It is said she is still “guarding” the front doors to this day.

Meet Patient #1111 - Dr. Lincoln Stone

Case Number (Patient): 1111

Patient’s Name: Doctor Lincoln Stone

This year at the Asylum you might have the pleasure of meeting our Head Doctor, Dr. Lincoln Stone. Dr. Stone joined our staff in 1984 as an intern. He quickly showed that he had potential to become the head of the medical department. What was not known was that Dr. Stone had a virus in his brain and with each passing day he was starting to slip into Psychosis.

As the Psychosis got worse the nursing staff started noticing that patients were disappearing from their rooms and a day or so later items of clothing from the patient would be found in the boiler room or somewhere on the Asylum grounds. The staff became more and more convinced that Dr. Stone was killing these patients and eating them.

Are you brave enough to walk the halls of the Asylum to see if you have an encounter with Dr. Stone?

Meet Patient #666 - Sister Mary Dementia

Case Number (Patient): 666

Patient’s Name: Sister Mary Margaret

Sister Mary Margaret became the Administrator for the St Agnes Hospital in 1975 and was for over 20 years. After many years of running the hospital a young girl, Stephanie, was brought in to be cared for by Sister Mary Margaret.

Stephanie was acting very erratic, falling into a coma like state, throwing objects, family pets had become afraid of her, and foaming at the mouth. The family had taken her to several doctors, and they examined her, but no one could come up with answers. The family took Stephanie to their local priest, Father Joel, who immediately had the family take Stephanie to the Asylum and Sister Mary Margaret.

Sister Mary Margaret tried hard to fight the demon. Within a few days the other staff members at the Asylum noticed significant changes in Sister Mary Margaret’s behavior. It was becoming very clear that the demon from Stephanie had decided to take over the sister’s body, mind, and soul. This drove her mad and she lost her mind, body, and soul. This left the sister a shell of her former self.

The Sister now wanders the halls and grounds of the asylum looking for some peace from her madness. Several of the patients nicknamed her Sister Mary Dementia.

Introduction to The Asylum Haunted Hospital - Part 1

We are 78 days away from opening night. We hope you are as excited as we are. To pass the time until them we will be sharing bios each Friday on the Asylum and the characters in the Asylum. This is part 1 of 2 on the bio for the Asylum Haunted Hospital.

The St. Agnes Church was built in 1910 and served as a central hub for the community and its activities. The church would host picnics, ice cream socials, carnivals, and host the circus. The church was a place that the community could come to for anything they needed.

In 1930 the church determined there was a need for affordable health care for the community and they built the hospital. St. Agnes Hospital sole purpose was to provide health care and medical treatments to anyone in the community that needed it whether they could pay for it or not.

In 1975 Sister Mary Margaret was appointed the Administrator over the hospital. In 1979 Father Joel was assigned as Priest at the church with his primary responsibility being to help the patients and their families at the hospital with their spiritual needs. In 1984 she hired Dr. Lincoln Stone as an intern to work in the Psychiatric wing of the hospital. For a few years the three of them ran the hospital with no issues.

In 1990 a patient, Stephanie, came to the hospital and after months of observation it was believed she was not sick but rather possessed by a demon. Father Joel, Dr. Lincoln Stone, and Sister Mary Margaret tried to perform an exorcism on Stephanie in an attempt to save her. Unfortunately, they were not successful, and Stephanie lost her fight with the demon.

This demon was very determined to ruin the lives of everyone at the hospital. Little by little the demon went after the souls of Father Joel, Dr. Lincoln Stone, and Sister Mary Margaret. The demon’s first target was Father Joel, you’ll learn more about this in the bio for Father Joel. The next victim was Sister Mary Margaret, you’ll learn more about her in her bio. Then lastly the demon went after Doctor Lincoln Stone, watch for his bio coming soon.

Story continued in Part 2 coming on September 6th.

Casting and Sponsor Call

The Asylum Haunted Hospital (aka Asylum), presented by Ocoee Lions Club. This haunted house is unique as it is in 100% darkness and all you have is a small flashlight to light your way through the halls of the Asylum.

We have a need for actors (both male and female) and makeup artists. These actors will be patients at the Asylum and need to be able to work in the dark and with loud noises/music playing. The makeup artist will assist with getting the actors in makeup before the hospital opens to “patrons”. Makeup call time is 5PM. To volunteer at the haunt, you must be 14 year or older. In addition to the nights we are open we will have a dress rehearsal on October 14th and a Costume Fitting meeting on September 14th. The actors and makeup artists need to commit to all dates. As a reminder all positions are volunteer (this is a charity fundraising event) and the time at the haunt does quality for Bright Future volunteer and community service hours.

We are also looking for sponsors for the event. Sponsors will be listed on our website, Facebook, our ads for the event, and for donations over $200 the sponsor will be added to the event flyer.

We will be open from 7 to 10 PM ET on October 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, and 30. With 7 to 7:30PM being a no scare time so that little kids and others can see the haunt in a non-scary setting.

If you are interested in learning more please email Lion Melissa or Lion Tracey at ocoeelionsclub@gmail.com or call 321-247-7441

The haunt will be held at 108 Taylor St., Ocoee, FL. Entry fee for patrons is $5. The proceeds of this house go to the Ocoee Lions Foundation, which is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3), non-profit organization.

This haunted hospital is unique as it is in 99% darkness and all you have is a small flashlight to light your way through the halls of the Asylum. Are you brave enough to try it?

This year at the Asylum we will be offering, from 7 to 7:30PM, a “lights on”, “no loud music”, “no flashing lights”, “no jumping out at guest” and “no scare” period for those that want to experience the haunted hospital but may not be able to otherwise. This would be perfect for younger children, children (or adults) with autism or other sensory disorders, and/or those with physical, emotional, or mental disabilities. Our goal is to allow everyone to have a great Halloween season and help a local charity in the process.

We will be open from 7 to 10 PM ET on October 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, and 30. Entry fee is $5. You can now purchase tickets for The Asylum at the door or ahead of time online: https://squareup.com/store/ocoeelionsclub/item/the-asylum-haunted-hospital.

The proceeds of this house go to the Ocoee Lions Foundation which is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3), non-profit organization.

We still have a need for actors. These actors will be in a costume roaming the halls and grounds to scare patrons. As a reminder all positions are volunteer (this is a charity fundraising event).
